Microsoft’s Windows Server 2008 is the basic solution with reference to a Windows Dedicated Server. It provides a great performance with astonishing features for your personal or business requirements.

Web Edition: Windows Server 2008 web edition’s main objective is to serve as an application hosting. This version can also be accessed via Remote Desktop Protocol. The web edition is very well integrated with IIS and .Net. It allows customers to quickly accomplish many different web applications.

However, there are some limitations to the web edition. It is available in 32 and 64-bit versions, supports four physical processors in 32 and 64-bit environments and requires up to or a minimum of 2 GB of memory (RAM). It does not support Active Directory or the full version of the MS SQL database but it supports Ms SQL Server Express Edition.

Standard Edition: This version of Windows Server integrates all the necessary tools of Microsoft server systems. It can act as a web server, file server, print server, application server (IIS, Net), emailing service, streaming, and more.

The Windows dedicated server with the standard edition also has a wide range of hardware support. It may take up to four physical processors in 32 and 64-bit environments. For 32-bit, up to 4 GB of RAM is supported and for 64-bit, you can install up to 32 GB of RAM. It is geared towards small to medium-sized businesses.

Enterprise Edition: This version of Windows Server 2008 offers even increased hardware support. You can install up to eight physical processors with up to 64 GB of memory on the 32-bit version. For 64-bit, you can go up to 2 TB of memory.

It fully supports Microsoft’s Active Directory. It extends the Ms. SQL and provides support for workgroup versions of the SQL server. This is a quite powerful solution for dedicated hosting.

Data Center Edition: This is a top-end product of the Windows Server 2008 version, mainly considered to complete the critical requirements of enterprise businesses.

The data center edition is also available with 32-bit and 64-bit versions and supports 64 GB of memory on 32-bit systems and up to 2 TB of memory (RAM) on a 64-bit system environment. In addition, this edition supports a minimum of 8 processors and a maximum of 64 processors.

Note: A minimum of 10 GB space requires is required to set up but 40 GB or greater is recommended.. However, a server with more than 16 GB RAM may require more disc space.
