How can I upload files on an add-on domain?

To upload files for an add-on domain, you need to place them in the correct web root (document root) folder of that domain. Each add-on domain has its own separate directory, so uploading files to the main domain’s folder will not make them appear on the add-on domain.

Step 1: Find the web root of the add-on domain

1. Log in to your cPanel.
2. Go to the Addon Domains section.
3. Next to the add-on domain name, you will see its Document Root (web root) path.
4. Example: public_html/addon-domain-name.com or public_html/addon

Make a note of this path.

Step 2: Upload the files

You can upload files in two common ways:

Option A – Using cPanel File Manager

1. Open File Manager in cPanel.
2. Navigate to the document root folder of the add-on domain (the path you noted earlier).
3. Click Upload and select the files from your computer.
4. Wait until the upload is complete.

Option B – Using FTP

1. Connect to your hosting account with an FTP client (such as FileZilla).
2. Go to the same document root folder of the add-on domain.
3. Upload your files into that folder.

Important tip

Always double-check that you are inside the correct folder before uploading. Files placed in the wrong directory will not show on the add-on domain’s website. Once the files are uploaded to the correct web root, they should be accessible through the add-on domain.
