Installing phpMyAdmin on a Windows VPS is quite straightforward if you already have PHP and MySQL set up. Here’s a simple step-by-step guide to get it running.
1. Download phpMyAdmin
Go to the official phpMyAdmin download page:
http://www.phpmyadmin.net/home_page/downloads.php
Download the latest stable version (the zip file).
2. Extract the Files
Once the download is complete, double-click the zip file and extract it to the following location:
C:\inetpub\wwwroot\phpmyadmin
3. Rename the Configuration File
Open the folder you just extracted (C:\inetpub\wwwroot\phpmyadmin).
Find the file named config.sample.inc.php and rename it to config.inc.php.
4. Edit the Configuration File
Open config.inc.php with Notepad.
Look for this line:
$cfg[‘blowfish_secret’] = ”;
5. Add a Secret Key
Inside the single quotes, type any random word or phrase. For example:
$cfg[‘blowfish_secret’] = ‘manan’;
You can use any combination of letters and numbers. This key is used for cookie encryption, so just make sure it’s not left empty.
6. Save the File
Save the file and make sure the name remains exactly config.inc.php.
7. Open phpMyAdmin in Your Browser
In your web browser, go to: http://localhost/phpmyadmin
8. Log In
Enter the MySQL username and password you set up earlier.
If everything was done correctly, you should now see the phpMyAdmin login page and be able to manage your databases. That’s it! phpMyAdmin should now be ready to use on your Windows VPS.
