What Is Plesk?

Plesk is a web server administration control panel. We highly recommend it for Windows web hosting to help you manage your website. It is quite similar to other panels like cPanel and Ensim. For instance, Plesk allows you to manage Windows server administration tasks. Specifically, you can set up new websites, create email accounts, and add DNS entries all through a web-based interface. Furthermore, similar to cPanel, Plesk is easy to use. Consequently, it doesn’t matter if you don’t have administration skills.

How to Backup and Restore Files in Plesk 8

First, log in to Plesk 8. We will assume you are already logged in to the Plesk Panel for the following steps.

Accessing the Backup Manager

To begin, let’s learn how to back up and restore files. First, click on the Backup icon. Afterward, you will see the main backup page where you can create immediate backups, restore files, or schedule future backups.

Scheduling a Backup

Now, let’s learn how to schedule backups.

1. Click the Scheduled Backup icon. You will then see the main page for scheduled backups.

2. Under Backup Time, enter the time of day you want the backup to run.

3. Next, for the Backup period, choose how often the backup should run: Daily, Weekly, or Monthly.

4. Then, specify the Number of backup files recorded in the repository (e.g., 1000).

5. In addition, you can add a prefix to backup file names (e.g., “backup”).

6. Finally, to receive error notifications, enter an email address where Plesk can send them.

7. Once you are finished, click the OK button. However, you are not quite done yet. You must go back into the scheduled backup settings.

8. To complete the process, you must enable the scheduled backup by clicking on the Enable button. Now, Plesk will run the backups according to the details you provided.

Creating an Immediate Backup

Let’s return to the backup manager.

1. To make an immediate backup of your account, click the Backup Now button. As a result, you will see the backup information page where you can review details like the file name and add comments.

2. Click the Backup Now button again to start the process. You will then see the progress of the domain backup.

3. When the backup is finished, click the OK button. Consequently, Plesk will list the new backup in your backup manager.

Downloading and Restoring a Backup

1. To download a backup, first scroll to the right of the backup file. Then, click the download icon and save the file. This action saves the backup directly to your computer.

2. To restore a backup, simply click on the appropriate backup file in the list. However, if the backup you want to restore is located on your computer, you must first click the Add new file icon to upload it.

Finally, to return to the Plesk homepage at any time, click the Home icon located on the left side below the “General” option.
