This tutorial explains how to create and publish a poll on your Joomla website. Polls are useful when you want to collect quick feedback from visitors — for example, asking how they like your website, a product, or a service.

Note: Joomla no longer includes a built-in Polls component (it was available in older versions such as Joomla 1.5). To create polls on a modern Joomla site (Joomla 4 or 5), you need to install a third-party poll extension from the Joomla Extensions Directory.

Follow the general steps below after installing a suitable poll extension:

Step 1: Create a New Poll

  1. Log in to your Joomla administrator area.
  2. Go to Components → [Your Poll Extension name] (the exact menu name depends on the extension you installed).
  3. Click New.
  4. Enter a name for the poll (for example: “Please tell us how you like our website”).
  5. Add the answer options (for example: Needs Improvement, Not Bad, Good, Superb).
  6. Click Save.

Step 2: Publish the Poll Using a Module

  1. Go to Content → Site Modules (or Extensions → Modules, depending on your Joomla version).
  2. Create or edit a module related to your poll extension.
  3. Set the module title (for example: “How do you like our website?”).
  4. If you prefer not to show the title on the frontend, set Show Title to No.
  5. Under the module settings, select the poll you just created.
  6. Choose the module position where you want the poll to appear (for example, sidebar or homepage position).
  7. Set the module status to Published.
  8. Click Save.

Once saved, the poll will appear on your website’s frontend in the selected position.

Final Note

Using this method, you can create multiple polls for different purposes, such as gathering feedback on products, services, or website experience. Important: Joomla 1.5 is a very old and unsupported version. For better security, performance, and features, it is strongly recommended to upgrade to a current version of Joomla (Joomla 4 or 5) and use a maintained poll extension.
