You can also install Linux alongside Windows as a dual-boot system. This means each time you start your computer, you can choose which operating system to use.<\/p>\r\n<p>Many people prefer dual-boot because it lets them try Linux while still keeping full access to Windows. With a simple reboot, they can switch back whenever needed.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h4><strong>Why You Should Install Linux After Windows<\/strong><\/h4>\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you plan to use both systems, it is better to install Linux after Windows.<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>On a new computer, install Windows first, then install Linux.<\/li>\r\n<li>If Windows is already installed, you can install Linux alongside it.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>When Linux is installed after Windows, the Linux installer can usually detect Windows, resize its partition if needed, and set up a boot menu that lets you choose between Windows and Linux.<\/p>\r\n<p>If Linux is installed first and Windows is installed later, Windows may overwrite the Linux bootloader and ignore the existing Linux partitions. In that case, you would need to repair the Linux bootloader to make both systems work again. Because of this, installing Linux after Windows is the safer and easier approach.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h5><strong>Steps to Set Up a Dual Boot System<\/strong><\/h5>\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Modern Linux distributions make dual-boot installation relatively simple. In most cases, the installer provides a clear option to install Linux alongside Windows.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>1. Download Linux<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p>Choose a Linux distribution (such as Ubuntu, Fedora, or Linux Mint), download the ISO file, and create a bootable USB drive.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>2. Boot from the USB on Your Windows PC<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p>Restart your computer and boot from the USB installer. From there, you can select either Linux or Windows.<\/p>\r\n<p>Some distributions automatically boot the default system after a few seconds if you do not make a selection. On modern computers with SSDs, switching between the two systems is usually fast.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h5><strong>Sharing Files<\/strong><\/h5>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One advantage of dual-booting is easy file access from Linux. In most Linux file managers, you can open the Windows partition and browse your Windows files.<\/p>\r\n<p>Accessing Linux files from Windows is less straightforward because Windows does not natively support common Linux file systems such as ext4. In that case, you may need third-party tools.<\/p>\r\n<h5><strong>Useful for Gamers Too<\/strong><\/h5>\r\n<p>Dual-booting can also be helpful for PC gamers who mainly use Linux but still need Windows for certain games.
