What is Imageshack?
ImageShack is a image hosting website.ImageShack right-click is an extension for Firefox that allows users to upload images on other websites directly to ImageShack without having to first save them locally.ImageShack is an intuitive and easy-to-use free image hosting solution. It can be used to share pictures with friends, as well as to post images on message boards and blogs. It can also be used to direct link images on websites and online auctions.
They have a subscription service, but the majority of their revenue is produced from advertising related to their free image hosting. But, there are some limitations to this service. Primarily, the alloted upload size is 1.5 megabytes. Additionally, the only file formats permitted are jpg, jpeg, png, gif, bmp, tif, tiff and swf. Granted, this is a very generous service, especially considering it’s free.
ImageShack is the world’s fifth biggest photo-hosting site according to Hitwise, behind direct competitor Photobucket and the photo sharing communities Yahoo! Photos, Webshots Community, and Kodak Gallery. It ranks ahead of Flickr and another direct rival: Slide. Known for its underwhelming interface, simplicity, and a free ad-supported business model, ImageShack owes much of its success to MySpace – Hitwise reported that 50% of ImageShack’s traffic in May 2006 came from MySpace users. However, they do support other platforms: the company has a custom uploader for Friendster, and encourages use on Windows Live Spaces, Xanga, Fotolog and thousands of other community sites.
How to upload Images?
Visit the website Select browse to find an image that you want to upload. Select an image, press OK/Open, and then press the “Host it!” button. After a short while (depending on your internet connection and image size), your image will upload and you will see a number of boxes with linking code for your uploaded image. Depending on your use for the image, use any one of these linking codes.
After the file is uploaded, the user is redirected to a page containing different versions of URLs to the uploaded image. These URLs are preformatted in HTML and Bulletin Board code, which can be used to hotlink them on websites and message boards. These URLs can’t be reached publicly, therefore only the user and the people the user gives the URL to can know the file location.Images are stored on ImageShack indefinitely unless the image or the user who uploaded it abuses the Terms of Service. The image will be rendered inaccessible if the image uses over 100 megabytes in a one-hour period. There is also a free registration service that gives the user the ability to see and delete their previously uploaded images.
ImageShack galleries
In imageshack users may also create galleries for their images — public collections of selected images with guestbook and rating functionality. ImageShack’s Terms of Service state that the uploading of pornographic materials is prohibited. Users may purchase credits to do bulk uploads of images. This includes using Windows XP publishing after downloading a free plug-in or uploading numerous images in a single zip file. File size limits are still enforced when using this method of uploading images.
