There is a general question asked by all, who are new in online business. The question is that What is the difference between a cheap VPS hosting and a semi-dedicated server? Are these servers one and the same?
Not really. Yes, both have been highly preferable as the best stopover between shared hosting and dedicated hosting. In person, I will go for cheap VPS hosting. I may not own the physical server here but I definitely have control over its virtual pieces. In terms of security too, cheap VPS hosting assures me more. In a semi-dedicated server, you continue to share the physical server with another websites, only this time you share it with just a few. OK, let me describe the variation between the servers by understanding what those are.
Cheap VPS hosting :
A physical server is distributed into logical partitions and every division becomes a cheap VPS hosting. Now, one virtual server does not interfere with another. You get full control on them. You can configure them according to your own specifications. You do not have to share your virtual server with another websites.
Obviously a VPS is a great option, if you want total administrative access over your virtual server. That will need the experience to setup, maintain, secure and optimize your server. Any licenses like cPanel, Direct Admin, etc will come at an extra price. Server management may come at an extra cost etc.
There are mainly two types of VPS in the market. First one is Linux VPS and second one is windows VPS. Linux VPS is cost effective than windows VPS.
Semi-Dedicated Server:
Unlike a dedicated server, you don’t own the semi-dedicated server. The hosting company owns it. This server run in a proper manner like a shared server in the sense that you share it with another websites. But, this time your share is better as you share the server with a handful of websites. You get root access and control over a part of the server.
For some, a semi dedicated server could be a better option with access to a larger share of the resources. But you also have the option of getting multiple virtual servers if you require more resources. Your requirements and budget options will be the deciding factors in choosing between a VPS and a semi dedicated server.
If you want a single line answer, then the answer is : Yes, You can host as many account as you want on your Virtual Private Server.
The above answer is right but long answer is that it is complicated. If you select to utilize a control panel, you will get an unlimited software license with which you can set up as many web hosting accounts as you want. But it doesn’t mean that every hosting plan has the physical resources able to hosting infinite accounts.
Bodhost.com provides you sufficient resources to set up a large amount of accounts for every VPS Hosting plan, but you will realize that once you range a particular level, then you have to need some more resourcs to add next account. The resources you require greatly depend on the kind of websites you wish to host, and the kind of resources those sites will consume. That’s why its difficult to predict the exact number of websites you can host. However, should you require greater resources, rest assured, we make sure the upgrade is fast and seamless.

VPS hosting acts like the stepping stone between shared hosting and dedicated hosting. You can share the cost of the server with other users at the same time it offers you the root access and performance of a dedicated server. You can customize your VPS and it has much more powerful resources than shared hosting. Using virtualization, single physical server is split into virtual “servers”. Each individual, physical server acts like a stand alone server with customizable features, root access and dedicated resources.
When you are looking for a good VPS provider, consider the features they are offering with respect to the prices of their packages. Go for the provider who offers you the best solution for your individual requirements. Cheap VPS hosting services are offered by many but make sure that your hosting provider is reliable and has a good service record.
What hardware are they running?
The basic but very essential thing is hardware. You must search that which types of hardware the host is using. You must be sure about running dual CPU, quad core Xeon processors, and also check to see that they are utilizing hardware based RAID on their drives. They should have at least RAID 5, but RAID 10 is better due to it’s speed and stability.
Check the software :
There are some points, you must look into before you make a decision
1. For a Linux VPS, if you like any OS that’s good but if you do not have much in depth knowledge about OS then you should select CentOS 4 or 5.
2. Every Virtual private server comes with root access. So VPS don’t have any restriction and it gives you administrative access to your website and the server which it is hosted on.
3. You must check that you can host as many domains as you think you may require.
4. Your hosting provider provides the control panel which you like working with. If they are not then search that what is the alternative, because cPanel is fairly common, and also one of the best.
5. You also want to make sure your VPS comes with at least 2 IPs. You will need 2 IPs to setup name-servers on your domain.
