PHP/MySQL on Windows server?
Just wondering about this, but I understand that it's possible to run PHP and MySQL on a Windows servers. Does BODhost install them by default when a server is setup up, or do we need to specify so that it can be installed? If any of you have tried running PHP/MySQL on a Windows, I would also like to know if there are any issues doing so, or is as stable as on a Linux server.
Thanks!

Yes, you can run PHP and My SQL on a Windows VPS Server. If you choose a control panel like Plesk with the server then PHP and My SQL are installed while server setup.
Let me know if you have any questions.

This is good to know. How different is plesk than CP? I'm just not familiar with plesk at all. Is it harder to use than CP?

@lucy2u: It's not harder, per se, just different. It is actually quite similar in certain ways since they're both control panels, so they do basically the same things, only differently.
Anyway, PHP/MySQL is actually pretty reliable and stable in Windows Server. Windows Server actually runs them much better than a Linux server runs .NET (using Mono, though it's becoming more stable with every release).

Plesk is more or less similar to cPanel - control panel. I do not think you will have any issues with the Plesk interface.

Personally I've never used plesk. However, my husbands site is on a plesk interface. It looks as simple as my CP. Honestly, I've not have time to play with plesk enough to know much. But in general, it looks pretty simple to me

Probably, you can share your Plesk Control Panel experience with us later on.

Thanks for your replies, guys and gals! Looks like a Windows server is ideal if you want to play around with programming languages. The cost is more expensive than a Linux server, of course, but may be well worth it to a serious programmer.

Actually, Windows VPS hosting packages are expensive in comparison to Linux VPS hosting packages as Windows operating system requires licensing fee and and Linux does not require licensing fee as it is a free (open source) operating system.
When it comes to Programming languages, if you wish to play around with ASP, ASP.NET etc. then you should choose Windows based VPS. Otherwise, you can choose Linux based VPS also.

So basically, if I were to switch from Cpanel to Plesk, it would really not be much of a learning transition? At least that is what I gather from this thread. Nice to know!

All control panels more or less have the same features or do the same things, so it should be really easy switching from one to the other. Heck, I've switched control panels often in the past (though I have yet to try Plesk) and I haven't had any trouble.

Thanks squishy, it seems in the beginning of my learning experience, every time I tried something new, something went wrong. I've since learned that just about everything has a solution and can be fix, with or without a headache.
