Free web hosting providers impose a lot of restrictions on the websites even if they mention that they do not have any kind of restrictions.

The first restriction is the resources provided to the website. You will get limited resources i.e. disk space and bandwidth and they do not provide more resources if required in future (as far as I know ;)).

The other drawback is the fact that they will post their banners and advertisements and will earn money from it and due to this, you won't be able to earn a lot of money from it even if the content is yours.

Also, they won't allow you to migrate your website to paid hosting provider if you would like to do this later on which is another drawback :(

I would never suggest any user to go for a free web hosting service. You never know when your website are shutdown for no reason. Services provided to the free hosting provider is never free.

Also, the restrictions are way too much when compared to a paid hosting provider.

If you are looking for Free hosting you shouldn't expect Uptime, Security, Flexibility, Scalability, and above all support.

Yes, that's true!

For any type of website free hosting is not a right choice, no matter whatever the limitations are.

There are some free hosting services which don't place their ads on your website. Thus, this shouldn't be a problem to monetize your website. But overall, you are right. They don't even guarantee that their services will last. In other words, they can stop providing you the services any time. How terrible it is.

It might be possible that some of the free web hosting providers won't place ads or banners on your website, however, they will either need a backlink or some other sort of returns from you as you are using their services and paying nothing for it. Also, you couldn't expect reliability, uptime guarantee, support etc. from a free web hosting provider :o

The basic concept is to understand the fact that why would they offer web hosting services for free without any benefit as they have to pay for it

Not absolutely correct :o

Even if you choose a paid hosting provider which is reliable enough, you have limitations on the hosting package, however, the benefit is, the better the hosting package, the lesser the limitations :dancing:

For example, if you choose a shared hosting package, you won't have root access to the server and hence you won't be able to install the applications you need. On the other hand, if you choose a VPS or a dedicated server, you will have full root access to the server and hence you can install the applications you need

Hope this helps...

Yes this indeed is helpful. No matter what you choose, Paid or Free Hosting, limitations does exist. The only difference is the volume of those limitations.Usually with a free hosting service there are more limitations and less server resources, whereas with paid hosting you have various hosting options to choose and accordingly the limitations defer.

Most paid hosts offer 24/7 support & uptime guarantee which is not the case in Free Hosting. In case a free host decides to cancel their free service - you have only 2 choices, pay them or loose your website.

Free hosting providers cannot afford to provide customer service to their clients. However, this is not the case with most paid web hosting providers.

Free web hosting providers do not provide services to their clients, however, they gain enough benefit from the websites of their clients as they place some advertisements on the websites of their clients which gives them benefits so that they can continue their services ;)

Sometimes, free hosting providers offers you a free hosting but after 3 or 6 months customer realizes that it was just a free trial, so it means to keep your site going you need to pay the after a trial period. Also, signing for a free hosting account you may have to face the bulk email advertising issue.

TBH, free Web hosts are known for their non-reliability and Downtime. Often their servers are overcrowded and slow or even down for most of the time. Many free Web hosts are fly-by-night operations and they don't care much about users files/data.

If you are not serious with your website and don't want any kind of tech support or any kind of assurance in regards with your webdata/files then you can go with FREE hosting ..

Hi am new to the forum, but definitely not new to the hosting and SEO industry. As the initial thread asks "What are the limitations of free web hosting service?"
IMO. free hosting involves only limitations nothing else. With this I mean, you have no control over the account/data,neither do you have the privilege to upgrade from the free server.Incase you fall short of the alloted free resources and wish to upgrade, you are no longer allowed to retain the free server account. And as a matter of fact,as your website becomes popular and you get high traffic, you are bound to fall short of resources. Now when you upgrade the package cost would be high and what you have saved by choosing free hosting would all be gone in the coming months to come.

Yes I agree!! Free hosting is full of limitations. One should check the merits and demerits of the free hosting before opting for it. Its good for the people who just want there presence on the web and want to be alive. Some personal pages or that sort.

The Limitations of free web hosting services can be limits on the size of the hosted file, extremely small bandwidth each month and it may not have the facility of certain files such as MP3, MPEG and ZIP files In addition. There is no guarantee of how much uptime you are going to get.

When it comes to a free web hosting provider, you will find that you won't be able to upgrade your package if your requirements increase in future and if they allow you to do so, they will charge for it and even keep the advertisements and banners on your website. So you pay for the hosting services and they earn from your website as well :(

Also, even if you pay for the hosting package after you upgrade, you won't receive good quality services from the free hosting provider.
