Default Image of VPS

Hi all,

i had a bit of a disaster with my BurstNet VPS last month, I think its half Burstnet's and half my fault in the end.

But it turned out I had to reinstall windows on the VPS as it BSOD'd before windows loaded.

The moral of the story is; i need to a way restore an image or backup of my windows setup somehow.

I am running Server 2008 IIS with a few sites and apps, and also hMail server and a couple of over scripts.

Its all working nicely now, so I guess the best thing would be to install some ghosting software to make an image then restore the image somehow if it went tits up or I moved hosts.

I am not sure how I would go abou tthis becuase there is no optical drive access with burstnet and all the previos imaging softwares ive used in the past have run from the optical drive.

The image would be about 13GB which i can then transfer to some webspace.

Any suggestions or alternative solutions for this?

Have you been asked them for a backup? I guess they should be able to backup for you and allow you to download it. However, there are number of option and offers out there that will provide this without the requirement of optical drive on the server you are backing up. One of the good option that I remember is “AppAssure”.

All it depends on their SLA, but they should be able to provide you an image. May be they will charge for this a small amount of fee.

For windows platform it is essential that you use a VSS compliant backup system. However, I would recommend you to opt R1Soft CDP- it is a very stable and reliable solution.
