I am not sure about the answer to that query based on the above info,
A little more info on the steps you took etc might help in correct your problem.
Or, you can get support straight from your provider.

You can check your WHMCS portal under the "Configuration" tab.
To check WHMCS Click on "Servers" and ensure you have an entry in this section. If an entry already exists ensure all the details are correct such as: server ip, type of control panel (cPanel, plesk, hypervm etc), name servers, your server root username/password etc.

For the automated emails- have you set a cron job for this?

Anyhow, if you are using a WHMCS software, you should call them or go through *their community forums for more details.

I guess you being a programmer makes you so systematic. I wish I was like you so I wouldn't face such problems. I now think maybe my web host is the one to blame- they could have changed my server root password. Need to check with them.

For your particular case, I think you should contact WHMCS directly for the best solution.

You can search for online diagnostics tool to trace what's wrong with your email configuration and whether it is working well or not. For eg, you can give hyperspin a try.

You can take help from your web hosting provider to solve this issue.

Thanks, yes my automation was working fine as I tested it to make some purchases. I think my hosting company changed my root password. Just got a confirmation from them. Finally this issue is resolved for me. Thanks to everyone for their suggestions and help. I guess this thread should now be closed.
