Default What is eating my HDD space ?

hi there,

Could anyone help me understand what is eating my HDD space ? I'm clearing the cache and logs created by my websites, yet free space is constantly going down the hill.

There is hardly any space used by my websites, IS it that I need to clear the OS logs ? where do I find them ? any idea how to clear them ? any cron ?

thanks in advance for your kind help !

I have had a look at your VPS space usage, I see there is 2.8 GB being used by error logs.

Let me know if you want me to get the error log file emptied to free up space.

----> hi Amelia, thank u so much for looking into my system. Is it possible that you could tell me the folder where these error logs lie ? so that I could delete these myself ? Thus, I won't need you follow up with you again to do this task in future.

thanks again !

The error logs are inside : /usr/local/apache/logs

If you are unsure how to do this please let us know, no problems at all. Make sure you do not delete the file just empty the file contents.

Let me know if you need any help with it.

hi there,

I just ran the below commands, found them at google and understand what these do:

echo " "> /usr/local/apache/logs/error_log

echo " "> /var/log/httpd/log/access_log

server looks ok, hope I didn't screw up anything.

another relevant good stuff I found is as below:

cat /dev/null > /usr/local/apache/logs/access_log
cat /dev/null > /usr/local/apache/logs/error_log
cat /dev/null > /usr/local/apache/logs/suphp_log
rm -rf /usr/local/apache/logs/*.gz

any comments ?

Looks like you have done it

We recommend using the "echo" command to empty the log files. the .gz files however can be removed with the rm -rf command. You should not delete the logs files though.

Let me know if you need any thing else.

I'm clearing logs here in this folder apart from all the cache and stuff in my websites, could you see what is still eating my HDD space in this VPS ?

I see the Disk Usage is now 15 GB (9.5G - home, 4.2G -usr)

And if you need a more detailed usage information, please initiate a Live Chat session from our website or open up a ticket with our VPS Department
