Default Video on a VPS?

What, if any, video software and tools are pre-installed on VPSes? I'm talking about things like FFmpeg, Mplayer, Mencoder, etc. If they're not pre-installed, would we be able to install it ourselves (and are we even allowed to)? Video can be rather resource intensive, so I'm wondering if BODhost has any limits regarding that sort of thing, especially on a VPS.

Video software such as FFmpeg, Mplayer, Mencoder, etc don't come pre-installed on a VPS, but yes, you can have them installed at a later stage We'd definitely help you with the installation part

Looks like a forum goer named Jason recently posted a tutorial on how to install FFmpeg, Mplayer, etc. The whole works, in fact. Go check it out, it's rather comprehensive: http://www.bodhost.com/forum/tutoria...ll-ffmpeg.html (How to Install FFMPEG?)

Great find. I will be reading this entire tutorial on how to do this type of installation, even though this isn't something I need as I already have it. I just want to know how to do it.

To accomplish the best performance, we highly recommend choosing a dedicated server for hosting a video sharing website. These websites generally need a lot of resources and work best on dedicated servers. Your experience with a VPS hosting may not be up to your expectation when hosting such type of websites.

Makes sense. Even my computer (which admittedly is an ancient dinosaur) bogs down when I try to do any video conversion on it. And since a VPS is essentially shared with other people, you might be affecting other people if consume too many resources.

What if it's not a video sharing site, just for something like a once-a-week video podcast? It shouldn't be as resource intensive as a video sharing site.
