rDNS - Delegation to the Users

I really wish Bodhost would delegate rDNS of our IPs to our servers on request. I asked for this in a support ticket but was told it was not possible.

I'm assuming its not possible just because they don't permit it.

I really think Bodhost should do this. Many other hosting providers will. I love Bodhost, its the best hoster I have found. However, for people like me who also like to use their server as a BNC for IRC, having the ability to quickly change the rDNS (whenever I want) would be a huge plus.

Changing the rDNS allows me to have cool vhosts for my BNC users. I like to change these every so often just for the coolness of it. I'd like to be able to change them myself. I'm glad Bodhost quickly does it for me on request, but I'd like the ability to do it myself.

Anyone else have thoughts on this or know why they can't delegate rDNS to our servers?

Hello Jeremy,

I believe there is a misunderstanding here. We do allow RDNS to be set for the IP addresses allocated.

Yes, I am aware. What I mean though is to have that ability delegated to the person's server. Thus, if I wanted to change it, I could do it myself without requesting it to the support staff. Here is a transcript of my ticket on this.

Me:

I like to use my two IPs on my server to BNC my IRC chat through. I kind of like having custom vhosts on these as you guys have helped me setup in the past.

I was just wondering though if you guys allow delegating the rDNS control of my IPs to my server so I can use BIND to add/change the rDNS of the IPs myself?

I would really like it if I could.

It's not possible to delegate the rDNS control of your vps ips to your server, You can any time contact us for setting up rdns and we will do it for you.

Aha...that's not the case with a vps hosting package. A request for RDNS is required.

However, with a dedicated server, we can provide you with a portal that will allow you to set your own RDN'S
