Default Backing up VPS?

Heya, guys! I'm wondering, is there any way to backup a VPS using Virtuozzo Power Panel, like you can using cPanel? If it's possible, can we also download the backups to our PC? I'm just wondering if is can be done, in case I would need it in the future — like if I mess things up too much.

Unless I'm mistaken, backups for Virtuozzo are saved to the parent node. Unfortunately, I think those backups cannot be downloaded to your PC. That's a pity because I think it would make a wonderful feature and would make migrating your VPS a lot easier.

Honestly, it is always advisable that you should take backups on a remote location server.

I don't see any reason to download these. They would not really make migration any easier. The backups would not work on other VPS providers anyways.

You should create backups with your control panel that backs up all its settings and user's files and upload that somewhere.

I create nightly backups with Webmin (my control panel) and it uploads them to my computer every night. Its very easy to backup for me since I only do full backups on sunday and incremental on monday through saturday.

My full backups are like 150MB right now, and the backups throughout the week aren't even a half a megabyte a day.

Remote backups (via rsync or what-have-you) is always a good idea, but sometimes backups do fail. I've known this person who was so paranoid that he had backups of his backups. Remote backup can also sometimes be expensive (though there are inexpensive solutions available) and some people don't like the idea of paying for something extra, even as insurance.

Anyway, I'm just saying there are a lot of reasons why one might want local backups. They might not be good reasons, but they're still reasons.

I'm one of those people

I have nightly backups to my computer every day. About once a month I will backup a few of those to a CD and put it in my fireproof safe.

Most people should be able to backup through their control panel though like me, to a home FTP server. This cost nothing to do.

Yes, Virtuozzo does provide with a Backup/Restore option. Virtuozzo allows you to place the backup of your VPS only onto the Node where your VPS is hosted.

In the past, I've had so many issues that I now back up on CD religiously every two weeks. I Do back up to my FTP as well. But I just feel better having a hard copy of it in the event EVERYTHING goes wrong.

That's the safest way, indeed. However, Remote backup solutions also works well.
