VPS is it vuln?

When things like this happen is it more the fault of the VPS owner (the client) or is it the hosting company? I just read today that a person I know (mention no names) is on a VPS and his site was defaced, nothing else was touched so wouldn't this be some random script kiddie and not the issue of the VPS being used?

It depends on many factors like security patches installed on your VPS, scripts you are using , file permission you have set etc etc.... Try to get firewall for your server for better security and peace of mind ;)

Well, I don't think a VPS owner should face a problem like this just because he has a VPS. The problem could have have occurred due to some applications installed on the VPS or due to some wrong programs or scripts. However, this could also be the problem due to the web hosting provider but as we are not aware about the web hosting provider, we shouldn't comment on it.
