Yes, there's much more you can do with it.. However, you should be familiar with using them since any command hit without proper knowledge for it can mess up your server.

Make sure you know what exactly the command does, if you are unsure contact the support department!

A Shared hosting package may provide you with Guaranteed Resources. However, you shouldn't expect better uptime guarantee with a Shared hosting package (In comparison to a VPS atleast).

A SSH/RDP Access to your server will allow you to manage the server according to you and you will be able to install the applications according to your needs.

SSH/RDP access to your server would allow you total freedom, you can play with your server as you want, once you logged into your server you can think as if you are are operating your local machine.
You have full access to your server, can install required applications, softwares/scripts on your server etc etc...... Make sure you have sound knowledge of server management with all command that you may fire on your VPS ;)

I started here with the Windows VPS Starters, it was very good, sadly enough my applications required more RAM. Just me being all cheap, ordered the biggest VPS right now. Don't see any problem at the VPS here!

Definitely, if the applications need more resources, it is always necessary to upgrade to higher package to run them secure and fine.
