It is an IP which is not connected to any computer or any other NIC(i.e Network Interface Card) on a computer.The use of the VIP is to take the incoming packets and redirect them to the physical network interface.So in this way we can overcome the connection redundancy.
Most interesting and important feature of VIP is that if the computer or NIC gets failed because an alternative computer or NIC replies to connections this Virtual IP willbe still available.
