Default Outlook Error 0x80042109

0x80042109 - Outlook is unable to connect to your outgoing (SMTP) e-mail server

Usually we get the above outlook error if either it cannot establish a connection with your e-mail server. Some of the common causes of this error messages can be either one of the following:
Quote:

  1. Either you are not connected to the Internet or may be that your mail server is temporarily unavailable.
  2. It might be that your account settings are incorrect.
  3. Or your user profile in Outlook is damaged.
  4. Might be an e-mail item on your POP3 server is damaged.
  5. It can also be due to the incorrect configuration of your Anti Virus software.
  6. The other possibility can be that you might have removed Outlook Express from the computer or the installation is damaged.
  7. It can also be due to the incorrect configuration of your personal firewall software.
Resolution for this error is as follows:

First thing if outlook has been removed then install it.
Secondly try reconfiguring your email account with correct details as follows:
Quote:
  1. Your full e-mail address.
  2. The type of e-mail account: POP3.
  3. User name : Your complete email address
  4. Password : The password assigned for the particular email address
  5. The SMTP server name or address should be mail.domainname.com or the server ip
  6. The POP3 server name or address should be mail.domainname.com or the server ip
  7. The port number that is used for SMTP : 25
  8. The port number that is used for POP3 : 110
  9. Outgoing e-mail server (SMTP) require authentication should be enabled
Reconfiguring your email account should resolve your issue and if still it doesn't work then verify the following settings:

Quote:
  1. Verify if you are connected to the Internet
  2. Verify your account settings
  3. Try Starting your Outlook in safe mode
  4. Try Creating a new e-mail profile
  5. Delete suspicious messages from your mailbox
  6. Check your antivirus vendor's Web site for additional suggestions
  7. Try Repairing Outlook Express
  8. Examine the configuration of your firewall software
  9. Try increasing the server time-out setting until the problem is resolved.
  10. Also make sure that your port is not blocked.

i am using older version of outlook (2003).. now a days when i am trying to send mail.. get this unknown error 0x80040600.. why..?

are you able to connect to port 25 ?
This normally indicates that you are not able to connect to smtp, might be the server/service is down, or the port would be blocked.
