Default Need help: Xanga export to Wordpress

My roommate is out of town for the week and I want to surprise him by building a great blog template for him and putting it on his own domain (who's on Xanga anymore? :rolleyes. I need help figuring out how to export all the blog/comment data to Wordpress. Anyone have experience with this, or know of a good tutorial?

That's gonna be a nice surprise for your roomie . I can't post the URL but look around for a blog by James Frank (2008) on this topic. He is upfront about it being a little dated regarding Wordpress updates but I reckon it will be a good start for you.

Thanks so much, I'll definitely do a search for that and see what comes up. I really appreciate the help! I think this is going to be a very nice little gift.

Hmmm, I have a feeling that this will be more than a little surprise for your roomie! Don't forget to update us on the reaction . Glad that the information may be of help - but don't mention me if it gets you into trouble hehe.

Some time ago I had found a Wordpress code which allowed importing Xanga data to Wordpress blog. You can try and search for that code on the internet and see if it works for you.

All the best!!

Thanks, all - I did some Googling and sorted it out.

I wasn't finished by the time the roommate made it back, but I'd gotten a good start. His reaction is probably best described as "shocked but excited." He was concerned that he might not be able to get the hang of Wordpress, but I walked him through the control panel and he didn't seem too worried afterward.

Glad to hear that

If possible, kindly share the procedure you had to follow in order to export contents of Xanga to Wordpress (name of the script if you used one ;)) so that other users can get some help if they wish to do the same

Hehehe I am glad to hear it went down well. I was really not sure it would! I quite like Wordpress, he will soon forget all about his previous blog system.
