Default What server security do we need to have and run?

Just having a general question so thought of asking it here. I am using Windows and Linux dedicated servers and I have messed up my Linux dedicated server by n number of various software’s. The Windows however is a another story. I have installed a standard windows firewall but I don’t think its pretty enough..

On the linux ones I have:
CSF (firewall and Bruteforce Detection)
Changed ssh Port
rootkit running daily
Virus Checker Daily
tmp lock down

and a few more

So what security or protection do you run on your Windows and Linux servers?

You can secure Linux as well as Windows Dedicated server by following some important steps which are follows:

* You can set limit on the the number of users access to the database.

* You should encrypt your databases properly

* In order to encrypt databases thoroughly you can use phrases rather than passwords.

* You should update the passwords regularly.

For Linux there is so much more to security than a few programs. Also if you think relying on a firewall is good security then your wrong. You should secure your box as if there was no firewall and then take the firewall as a bonus first line of defense.

On Linux I don't need to think on any of these...
