Question Widgets

I always see and read notices or offers to put a widget in social networking websites? What are widgets and what are they for? How do you put them on your website?

To the best of my knowledge, a widget is any sort of mini-web application that you can just paste right into a website without having to change your own code at all. They can have any number of purposes. For example, a hit counter is a widget. A countdown timer or clock is a widget.

You can usually just copy the code that the creator provides and paste it directly into your code.

It is very easy to install even for newbies, they just need to follow simple directions, much like cut and paste to get it down.

I love widgets. When you have a personal site, it's nice to have a couple freebie applications that provide a little style. Most of the free ones don't look particularly professional on a business site, though.

I have one on my desktop (the only one I use) that tells me the weather outside, since many times I am stuck in an office until its too late to change anything when I leave the work place. I have a couple on my blog as well but nothing too extreme, I always worry it could be a security risk.

I have used many different widgets on Myspace. My widget would count how many s I was given. It was a copy and paste thing. They are very easy to do.

You can also find widgets for your desktop via Yahoo and Google, probably others as well, which will give you any information you could possibly desire from the weather to stock market quotes. They are a little resource intensive though and can slow your computer down to a crawl sometimes.

I don't have widgets installed on Facebook, but I have many on my blogs using Wordpress platform. Not only on social networking websites, widgets play important roles on blogs. They really live your blog.
