Default Domain transfer procedure

Transfer of Ist TOP Level Domains: .com, .net,. org , .biz , .info…..

Transfer of domains is required to manage Hosting and Domain with single hosting provider. Following steps are involved during transfer of domain from one registrar to another.
• Please update the name servers of the domain prior to transfer to avoid down time. You may update the name serves of the domain by logging into domain control panel.
• Contact your current registrar for EPP key which is alpha-numerical, required to initiate a transfer request for the domain.
• Request your current registrar to unlock the domain as a registrar lock will prohibit the transfer of the domain to another registrar
• Raise request for payment.
• After receipt of payment and EPP key, new hosting provider shall initiate request for the domain transfer.
• You will receive request at administrative contact and registrant contact email address of the domain.
• Accept and approve the request so that domain will transfer successfully.
• It will take up to 5 days to transfer the domain after request is accepted.

Domain requirements

In order to transfer a domain between registrars, a domain must meet the following requirements:
• The domain must be at least 60-days old. Domains that are not yet 60-days old are not transferable between registrars. This is a registry restriction, not a regulation instituted by eNom or other registrars.
• A domain must be in “ACTIVE” or “OK” status. If a domain is in “REGISTRAR-LOCK”, “REGISTRAR-HOLD”, “REGISTRY-LOCK”, “REGISTRY-HOLD”, “REDEMPTION PERIOD” or “PENDING DELETE” status, the global registries will not allow registrar transfer.
• If the domain was transferred to eNom, the transfer must have completed more than 60-days prior.

Transfer request fails due to following reasons:

• domain contacts did not response to verification e-mails
• domain contacts did not approve transfer of domain
• Whois information provided does not match current registrant
• Domain is currently not registered and cannot be transferred:
• Domain is locked at current registrar or is not yet 60-days old
• Transfer already initiated for this domain
• Transfer rejected by losing registrar
• Canceled by customer

Note: 1st TLD domains are governed and administered by ICANN.

Transfer of 2nd TOP Level Domains : .co.uk, .org.uk…..

Following steps are involved during transfer of 2nd TOP Level Domains from one registrar to another.

• Please update the name servers of the domain prior to transfer to avoid down time. You may update the name serves of the domain by logging into domain control panel.
• Contact your current registrar to change the IPS tag to ENOM, required to initiate a transfer request for the domain.
• Raise request for payment.
• After receipt of payment and revised IPS tag, transfer request is initiated for the domain.
• Domain will get transferred within 24 ~ 48 hrs.

Note:
1. 2nd TLD domains =. Co.uk domains are governed and administered by Nominet.
2. .uk domains don't use authorization codes or registrar locks.

When would it be necessary to transfer a domain? None of my domains were purchased through my hosts and I've never transferred the names. I just set the dns and that's it.

I don't understand, we have to transfer our domain to your registrar? I have never had to do this at any other host, just change the domains dns.

It is not necessary to transfer a domain name under the registry of a web hosting provider to host the domain name on the server. You can do it if you wish to keep your domain name and web hosting package at the same place. It gets easier for you to manage your domain name and your web hosting package if you have them at the same place ( The web hosting provider ) and this is generally preferred. You will have to pay some amount to transfer a domain name from one registrar to the other. If you do not want to do this then you can simply update your nameservers and keep the domain name registered with a different domain name registrar.

That's Correct. It's always easier to manage domains and hosting packages if you have both with the same provider.

Transferring registrars has never seemed to be an easy and straight forward process to me. I don't know why it cannot be simplified some how to make it easier.

Domain name transfer is really easy if you wish to transfer a Domain name under BODhost registry. You will only have to provide us with the EPP code/Authorization code of the Domain name and we will do the rest for you. You can get this EPP code/Authorization code from your existing Domain name registrar.

While I doubt Bodhost will give you any problems, from my experience it's better to keep your domains in a registrar account simply due to security reasons.

In the event that your web hosting account was compromised, your domain could be tampered with as well. When both are separate, even if your web hosting account was hacked, you could still log onto your domain's registrar and temporarily point it somewhere else.

However, this could be bad too as if your account associated with your domain is hacked, your site will probably be tampered with as well as the hacker will either try to steal your domain or point the DNS somewhere else. And your web host company won't be able to help you as they don't have access to it, so you'd have to contact your registrar.

Well most of the hosting companies, just like Bodhost, will provide you with a domain control panel (upon request) from where the client can manage the DNS part.

The server and registrar account are totally different.. so even if the servers have issues, the registrar account isn't affected in any way.

Hello,

There is one feature to secure your domain that is ID protect . ID protect, protects your information such as name, email address, contact number etc.

That is you can protect your private Whois information so that spammers are not able to access your genuine address.

You may contact billing department in case you wish to register and protect your domain.

It is recommended that you keep your Domains registered with your Web hosting provider which will be a much better option as you will be able to manage your Web hosting package and Domains very well. You can keep the Domains registered with some other Domain name registrar but keeping them registered with some other Registrar will not make them more secured.

Sure it might be easier, but if you are price concious, its not always the best solution in my experience. Plus, specialized registrars usually have some nice perks to go along with your purchase.

ahhh, I understand from this thread that I can get a domain name without a host? Okay, I purchase a domain name, it is registered with the seller, then, I buy a hosting package and transfer the domain register to the hosting service? Or I can have my domain name registered in both registry? Did I get it right? Can I also buy a domain name from the hosting service provider?

You can definitely purchase a domain name without a hosting package. However, if you wish to host the domain name on the internet, you will definitely need a hosting provider and space provided by them.

Once the hosting package is bought, all you need to do is register nameservers, assign them to the IP addresses that have been provided to you by the hosting provider.

If your hosting provider also offer domain registration, you can definitely host the domain name with them.

Shane Phillips
