Same questions is asked many times whether it's possible to create multiple websites with a single domain name. This type of question usually create some confusion about the various terms used by webmasters and about the entire process of creating a website. Today, I will try to answer this question and hopefully clear up all misunderstanding.
What is Domain Names and Website?
Domain Name: It is simply a name like "Bodhost.com". In order to use this domain name you will need to pay an annual fee to the domain name registrar.
Website: It is a set of files stored in a server that is permanently connected to the Internet. When you integrate a domain name, like bodhost.com, with that set of files, everyone can view that website by using a web browser to go to that domain. For example, when you connect to bodhost.com using your browser, you end up on this website, and you can read VPS hosting Plans, Dedicated servers, forums, articles etc.. that we make available here for others to read, like the bodhost forum you're currently looking at.
Once you register a domain you can do many things. For example, if you register a domain like "bodhost.com" you can make "support.bodhost.com" point to a another website from "www.bodhost.com". These names, "support.bodhost.com", are just a subdomain of the main "bodhost.com". You can add multiple subdomains as per your requirements, and have them point to different websites. You can also point them to the same website. Sub-domains can be easily add through control panel or else you can request your hosting provider and they will add it on your request. It's also possible to create multiple websites on single domain without using sub-domains. For example,if you have a domain like "xyz.com", and you want to have multiple websites on that domain, then you can create multiple websites and place it in it's own folder. So, Sam may have his website in "www.xyz.com/sam/" while Matt has his in "www.xyz.com/matt/". You can create any number of folders this way, each associated with a different website.
