Default WordPress Installation

Can someone let me know why would there be a security issue to install WP in the root of the domain? My current host has this option forbidden by default an let's you install WP only in a subdirectory, which is not good for me because I need root permissions.

I don't think that there should be any difficulties with this from the "realm of possibliities" end. It sounds as if it's a decision that your hosting provider made. I'm not aware of any security vulnerabilities.

Well, there are no security issues in installing WP in the root of the domain, however, if your hosting provider has done this, you need to contact your hosting provider to give you the privileges so that you can install WP in the root of the domain.

All the best!!

Yes, I think Wordpress is secure enough to install in the root of your domain. It is unusual that a web host doesn't allow the users to install Wordpress in the root of the domain. But I believe it is done on purposes.

I might be old fashion but I never install anything that is known to have random little bugs in /root, it just seems a little too unsafe for me. Then again I seldom use scripts too so that could be why.

I have always known that installing Word Press will end up on the root directory, not subdirectory. Maybe the problem must be in your host settings? You can make changes in it by contacting your hosting provider if the settings have been fixed by default.

Wordpress is normally installed in the root directory of the domain and most of the hosting providers have their servers configured in such a way that they are suitable for the installation of Wordpress. However, if you need any assistance with the installation, you can contact the hosting provider (this is reason it is recommended that you choose a hosting provider who offers round the clock support ).

carl, I fully agree that 24/7 support is needed but sometimes there are simple reasons for an install issue. Oddly after I ended up noting that I do not install in "r00t" I ended up doing a test one on a place that had offered free trials of using softaculous. I had caught the add on a random geek site and decided to just check it out, using softaculous rather than fantastico gave no issues (like I had assumed the opposite), maybe its the way its being installed rather than just installing in root?

The procedure which is followed for the installation certainly makes a difference. Using tools which allow you to install applications and scripts with a few simple clicks can save a good amount of time as well as the energy which is why it is recommended that these tools should be used.

Therefore, it is not the folder in which the application or script is installed making the difference but it's the way the application or script is installed
