Post learning php

Hello =) I know a fair bit about php, and all the associated stuff (html, css, mysql, etc)
I started to learn it when I used to code simple html pages by hand in vi and was looking for a good way to script some of the stuff to save repeating myself over and over again, I also started using php (along with perl) in shell scripts on my linux machines - I was just wondering why you started to learn php, and if you have any good resources to share with people that are starting out ?

I have yet to learn anything in PHP but am slowly learning more HTML and CSS. The link in your post is fantastic and I've bookmarked it. I don't need to be an expert but I feel that I should know some things instead of relying on other people since I work online.

W3 Schools has a decent PHP tutorial as well, and as for the PHP manual, it's indeed a great resource however it might be a bit overwhelming for a newbie. Therefore I think the one that W3 offers might be better to start out with, but for more complex things you'll probably have to consult the manual.

Besides that, I suggest you download some open source PHP scripts and mess around with the code to see what you can come up with.

Yeah, downloading scripts and messing with them is a good way to start, Its the way that I started =) and it's usually the way that I still work - no point re-inventing the wheel..
