Does anybody here know what version of php is on the servers here provided by bod host? I don't have an account here yet and I want to make sure it will work with the scripts I have.

You will get the latest version of PHP if you purchase a web hosting package from bodhost. The version currently available is PHP 5.2.8. You can also contact bodhost if you wish to have another version of PHP on the server.

Oh, nothing that fancy, I was thinking about using the newest version of joomla and maybe a forum, like smf or phpbb. So I am sure that they will run here without any problems. Thanks for the quick reply guys.

Yes you can run smf as well as phpbb. Bodhost do provide SSH root access with VPS through that you can install any custom application on your VPS and if you will face any problem with the installation you can contact support department, they will assist you further with it.

Certainly, you will get SSH Root access with the VPS which allows you to install any applications on it and it is also possible to uninstall any application if you do not need it in future. It allows you manage your server according to your own and this is the greatest benefit. But you won't need to install the applications like PHP as they are already installed on the VPS. There are installed on the VPS by the web hosting provider and bodhost.com also offers the same if I am not wrong. You can also ask for help from the support department if you want to install any applications on your VPS.

Both of the scripts should work without any problems. However, I will add that Joomla seems a bit complicated to mess around with. If you're a novice I'd recommend something like WordPress, as for SMF, I used to use it but moved onto MyBB. However that doesn't mean SMF is bad, it actually has a lot of mods. and a great package system. But it's not as friendly as MyBB in terms of editing the code in my opinion.
