Default Internet traffic reports

I recently came across a site reporting the worldwide Internet traffic speeds and it is quite fascinating. It quite clearly indicates where there are connection and speed problems. Does anyone here follow such things?

I would like to know where you have read this information. There will always be problems with internet speed because there is no perfect medium to transport information.

I've read an article or from a forum that a company is trying to send information through light. That would be faster than what we have now if this will be successful.

Woah I can't imagine how that works, but then again that's why I am not a scientist of any kind! Here is the link to the site I mentioned Network Overview /// Internet Traffic Report. Sorry, I didn't think to include it when I made the thread.

Isn't information sent at the speed of light when it is sent through fiber optic cables? I thought that part of the internet was already using this technology?

Fiber Optic cables use light pulses to transmit information and hence they are faster in comparison to Copper cables which use electronic pulses to transmit information.

I hope this answers your questions ;)

Carl answered the use of light impulse through fiber optics. Maybe this is the one that I've read about but if I remember correctly, the project only uses pure light to pass on information. The problem with this is that the information will be stopped when the light blocked by something.

Well, if the information is passed through light directly, they should take enough precaution in order to make sure that it does not effect the environment or the existence of human beings in any manner.

What kind of precautions can anyone take to prevent such danger or damage? I wasn't the brightest in science class at school but as far as I remember light can only pass through translucent things such as water. Wouldn't it just bounce of anything else?

There are different kinds of lights and there are lights that can pass through solids objects. Read here about this kind of light but I don't know if this is the same kind of light that they use for passing information.
