Default If you resell...

How do you make your own status page like most web hosts already have? Ive been thinking about this for a bit now, but would be be possible to only host that on say a shared server, so if your server/s (for your clients) goes down, they can always see the status updates?

It is indeed possible to have a status page for your servers. You can have a monitoring script installed on the server which sends regular updates to the page regarding the status of the server. You can have a separate login page for your customers so that they can login and check the server status. However, you should make sure that the information which should be provided to the customers should be displayed, otherwise, the same system can create problems for you ;)

I am thinking a script might be the best route around this but I am not sure how I am going to tied it in. I need it for about 4 servers on the same page, is that possible?

A script is indeed an answer to the solution you are looking for. There are many scripts available which can send notifications to you via email if there is a problem on the server, however, I am not too sure if you can have the server status script available which can show the status of the server(s) on a status page. There are some scripts which show the graphical representation of the load on the server(s) which might be helpful.

The monitoring script might be the easiest answer for me, I have seen a few people online brag about making their own but I am pretty sure that is right out of my area of expertise if you know what I mean. ;)

It is possible to create a monitoring script of your own, however, It would be a better option to consider a paid or open source script so that you can get support for it ;)

Carl, would you happen to know of any good server status scripts off-hand? Open source would be best, but paid would be fine, too... I think a friend of mine who does reselling might appreciate the info.

There are many server monitoring scripts available and you can choose one as per your choice, however, I would suggest you to consider Nagios or Zabbix. Nagios as well as Zabbix are released under the GNU license i.e. both of them are free scripts and have been appreciated for their performance

They will need root/admin access for the server though. I don't think any script will show the server status and other information to a reseller client.

Is there no way to display some limited information about the server status without providing that access? You'd think something like that would be available...

Well, I am not too sure about Zabbix, however, there are some addons for Nagios which might allow you to achieve this

Default I did this

I am not sure about the first either. I did it with Nagios, it was a little confusing at first but in the end I have exactly the sort of thing that you are trying to get. You should try it.
