MySQL on one server and Website Hosting on Separate Server

Can I have MySQL databases on one server and Website Hosting on Separate Server? Is this possible ? I know I will need to hosting on separate servers. What else I should know. Thank you.

Yes, that is possible. Your hosting company should allow remote access so you can access database remotely.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that the practice of most quality hosting providers is to offer databases on another specialized server that carries databases only.

It is also safer because when someone attacks one server the databases will be out of harms way. For sites with DBs it's better to lose files than actual DB data.
