Hi Khalid,

Can you check with your webhost again to see if they run weekly or monthly backup? Just in case of a disaster recovery plan? If they do, offer to pay them to retrieve the backup file if necessary, 6 years is a e period & the data here being important!

If your host isn't making any backup of any data on their behalf, there's no other way to get the deleted database back, unless they provide you with the HDD for data recovery. Its certainly high time for you to change your provider who doesn't care for client's data! Did you waited for this disaster to happen? why didn't you backed up on your own when you are running a site for last 6 years?

Any good webhost will (or should) at least have a copy of a weekly backup (or a monthly in the worst case) available during server crashes, hardware failures, etc. With this backup file, if they can place it in your home directory, you can download it, extract it & obtain the databasename.sql file which you can run with phpMyAdmin to recover the database.

We at Bodhost maintain weekly & monthly data backups & do provide them to clients whether necessary. You too can backup your entire cPanel account or just the databases, on a monthly if not on a weekly basis, there are options for the same in the cPanel interface! Also, make sure you atleast have one copy of that on your local machine or on some remote server.. just in case things go wrong again!

Perhaps, if you try contacting them and ask to check from the service provider. It is a possibility that you may get your backup.

First off, always backup. May I ask who you were hosting with? I'd find it surprising if they don't have a backup. If they do though you need to act fast as they may cycle them out.

Default Back ups

While you should back things up more often the problem is that your provider doesn't back anything up. To me that is absurd, I mean protecting clients data should be a really high priority! Even if it was a weekly or monthly or even BI monthly you could at least get most of that back! I am so surprised, I urge you to change providers to someone who does back ups. URGE YOU!

To answer your question, there is no recycle bin when it comes to databases because the DB itself can be considered to function as its own recycle bin. It is sad that you lost 6 years of forum records in a couple of clicks but this could have avoided or lessen the gravity of the occurrence by backing up your data. Backing-up your database is very significant in maintenance as you do not know when your DB will crash and fail. That is why it is recommended to have a backup handy.
