Default Odd requests

I was reading on another forum that some guy had asked for multiple SQL databases, but I am confused why he would need so many. The place ended up telling him the number he requested looked "fishy" to put it in laymen terms, but how many is too many?

To be honest, we cannot determine his utilization of the databases unless we have completely understood his server activities. Having many MySQL databases is definitely not the concern. There are many reason to host separate databases.

Why would someone need to host multiple databases? I'm just moving into working with MySQL and still learning about it. Wouldn't one database be sufficient?

Yes, I agree with Shane. It is OK to host many MySQL databasis in one hosting account. Suppose the web hosting service you are using enable you to host multiple domains, you will need a separated database for each domain.

If a person has a great deal of websites then you can expect that they will have at least one database per site however many people choose to have a new database for each function of their site as well. I know some wit up to 3 or 4 databases per each site they have.

Could anyone cite a reason for a domain to host separate databases? Is the query of multiple databases faster than from a single database?

I could understand domains having their own different database, but what about one domain using several databases?

So the difference is that sometimes people choose to use multiple databases so that each function in the site has its own database? I just wanted to make sure that I understood that correctly. Thanks!
