Default Database "emulator"

Is there a program out there that you can install on windows so you can test your scripts that use databases?

Also, are there tutorials on how to set up a database if the above is available.

Hi.. Do you have any control panel installed/setup for managing the hosting? You can create database using the control panel & manage it using PHPMyAdmin.
Tutorials can be found here : BODHost Helpdesk :: Support Center
More information is available in our KB here : Dedicated Server Hosting | VPS Hosting | Linux Virtual Private Servers | Windows VPS

Further more, you can install a MySQL ODBC connector so that you can test the connections using a DSN. Good luck..

What I meant was: I want to test this at home on my own computer before uploading it. I found out that WAMP already has MySQL. I just need to learn how to set it up and use it.

Did you try out AppServ ? AppServ is a full-featured of Apache, MySQL, PHP, phpMyAdmin. You can setup in 1 minite. Objective of AppServ Just Easy to install. You can setup web server, database server in 1 minute on your local machine or the production one, makes no difference.. it's ease to install & use would make one quite happy

Last time I played around with WAMP it set up the MySQL as soon as it was installed completely. The only problem I had was with figuring out what the password was but then I read the documentation and found out those details. If you still want to use WAMP just read the help guide and it should point you in the right direction.

hmm, I've never tried it, but it looks promising, I usually have a laptop with LAMP on it and a few testing websites setup when I'm developing. If I could get this setup on a flash drive then I could do away with carrying a laptop around and just take a flash drive with me =)

I believe there is a portable version of that software that does run off a USB drive. Actually, I just finished a Google search for it and came across "Server2Go" which looks to be based off WAMP.

Haven't used it myself, but I've heard people swear by XAMPP. There's supposedly also a portable version for it, which great if you want to take your work on a USB stick with you.

Some very useful suggestions in this thread. Thanks, guys (and gals)! I've always wanted to tinker more with php/mysql but didn't want to have to upload my files to a server for testing every time I changed one piece of code. This thread is a gold mine as far as I'm concerned. I particularly like the portable ones that were suggested since I tend to use different workstations often.
