Default Disable Ping

Well known internet tool to check if a machine is running is PING. Many users wants to disable PING to avoid detection or to keep away from Hackers.

You can use following command to disable PING:

echo "1" >> /proc/sys/net/ipv4/icmp_echo_ignore_all

The following command we enable PING for you:

echo "0" >> /proc/sys/net/ipv4/icmp_echo_ignore_all

Interesting if a person cannot ping, he will not be able to ssh into the server. Looks like something real basic here.

Thats a simple one. If you feel SSH or any service should be stopped also

You can do the following -

service sshd status - Check status

service sshd stop - Stops the ssh access

Yes, Command :

echo "1" >> /proc/sys/net/ipv4/icmp_echo_ignore_all

will disable the ping for your machine so that no one able to ping domain hosted on your box. And if someone ping to domain output will be as "Request timed out. " . And interesting is although ping disabled you will able to access box using ssh. :p
