Default Linux Savvy

My question is do you really need to know something about Linux OS to operate a shared web hosting account? From what I have heard you can do everything through the CPanel interface.

You heard correctly. You don't need to know Linux at all to tweak server settings. Usually everything is preconfigured and the only thing you need to figure out is how to upload your site to the server, which is pretty simple.

Just relax and use your Control Panel. You don't have to worry about any setting in Linux. Everything is usually set in advance for your site. Just FTP it to the server and you're all set.

I like to have control over my sites in many ways. That is why I try to learn Linux as much as possible. But you don't need to do this. This is just me.

Thank you Johnathan and the rest of the guys. I feel a lot better now that I don't have to learn all those things. I was starting to freak out already.

I wonder how many clients world wide with all hosting places worry about that. For me since I play around with computers as a hobby, learning some Linux was needed (and still is), but many people forget the reason control panels are there - to help those who need it.
