Hello from NYC
Hi. My name is Richard, and I'm a new arrival at Bodhost.
I was originally trained in hardware electronics (avionics, specifically) back in the 1970's. I somehow wound up in hardware I.T., and then consulting; and most recently, Web design. The Web design started as a hobby, but has grown into a business that has become viable enough that I'm thinking about selling the consulting company and doing just Web design. (Sure saves on gas, lemme tell ya.)
I have two other VPS accounts at two other providers, both of which I've had for years. One of the other companies I am very happy with, but the other's service has degraded steadily since they moved to a new DC whose connectivity, to be generous, has been, um... less-than-perfect. When my best single client (about $15,000/year) started complaining (and mind you, his business is located only a few miles from the DC), I knew it was time to look for another VPS.
I first called my other provider, but they're backlogged on orders and couldn't help me for a while. So I did a couple of days of research, and found a lot of good things said about Bodhost. So I took a chance on an unknown (to me) provider, and so far I am very happy.
I spent the last couple of nights getting the server where I needed it to be software-wise and running it through its paces, then installing some of my own sites on it. It performed splendidly enough that I started moving a few clients' sites to it yesterday. Did a major Apache rebuild early this a.m., also without a hitch. I also put a couple of tickets through (mainly to see what would happen, I must confess :p ), and they were promptly and efficiently handled, despite the fact that they were sent in the middle of the night.
So far, I am very happy. Yes, it's only been a couple of days; but I've been talking to machines the better part of my life, and this one (as well as its human keepers) seems very friendly and cooperative.
What's important to me, above all else, is reliability. Machine reliability, network reliability, and human reliability. If I get all of those things, I am among the most loyal and happy customers a vendor could hope to have -- as well as a vocal supporter and referrer of new business. Although it's still very early in this relationship, I am impressed thus far; and I hope that this relationship lasts for many years to come.
All the best,
Richard
