With managed vps hosting the hosting provider gives full technical support to manage the installations, upgrades and patches for your VPS.

With unmanaged vps hosting services, taking care of all the above factors is up to you. The hosting provider gives minimal technical support for your vps.

There are many advantages of managed vps hosting. Those are as follows :

1. Your hosting provider responsible for 24/7 technical support.
2. Your hosting provider should be work on software and application installations, server maintenance, upgrades.
3. There is no need to much more technical knowledge for user.

Post Re:

Some applications require that certain ports and/or protocols be opened or closed in the firewall. With Shared hosting, custom firewall configurations are not advisable for security reasons. Under the VPS, custom firewall configurations are feasible because of the partioning between customers. With a VPS, you can close ports using the IPTables feature.
