As far as I know, say, if the server on which your site is being hosted, fails, all the websites on this server will be moved to another server in cloud. This is the best feature of Cloud Hosting. This would assure you no downtime

The Cloud architecture will basically involve a number of servers instead of one so that the websites will receive 100% uptime guarantee as the websites will resolve from other servers in the Cloud

If I may add, cloud hosting has a special feature that removes single-point failures and not only that customers pay only what they have use and not what you can use. There's a marked difference there, it's like pay when use or no harm no pay.

If cloud hosting is successful (the research done till now ensures that it will be successful ;)), we will find many more websites launching on the internet and the availability will be much more in comparison to what it is now

So does this mean that a site hosting on a cloud server set up will always have a mirror on the network that it switches to? Otherwise, how is the site transferred if the original server has already gone down?

Yes, the data of the websites on the Cloud VPS is replicated on another server. If the server on which the websites are hosted fails i.e. goes down due to some reason, other server on which the data of the websites is stored will be online ensuring 100% uptime
