Default Industry Standard

What's the general industry standard for web hosting? From the discussions here and what I'm reading, it seems that things are moving toward cloud hosting being standard over traditional hosting. Do you think this will happen quickly or take a long time as it requires long term investment?

Good question. It may takes a long time for web hosting companies to change their hosting environment to cloud hosting, but I believe it won't be so long. Today more webowners are aware of advantages of the cloud hosting system over the conventional one. And web hosting companies will be forced to upgrade their system and service quickly, otherwise their users will leave for another company.

I personally believe Cloud hosting is not the be all and end all of hosting services. There is still alot to be proven with these services.

I run a dedicated server because its mine, I own it (through a leasing agreement) I can do what I want to it. I can also do whatever I want on my server without worrying about what happens to others sharing the same service.
