Default What is the difference between dedicated and private server?

I have been reading a lot but can't seem to understand the difference between dedicated and private server. I googled it, but most of the links I click on are either advertising one or the other. Can someone please explain? Thanks.

Managed Dedicated Servers:-
It refers to the sole owner of the server to rent it from a hosting provider which is mainly placed at the data center.

Dedicated Hosting:-
Provision of own server and web hosting provider, in this you have to plug into the data center, install own software and hardware.

Virtual Private Servers:-
A virtual private server(VPS) solution uses a software platform that permits a hosting vendor to multiplex a single dedicated server into multiple “virtual” machines. In essence, a VPS solution is a private and protected Web services infrastructure that operates as an independent server.

It is my understanding that dedicated servers can be either be hosted (virtual or VPS) or privately owned and co-located.

Private here refers to ownership of the server that is either used for hosting services of for sole use of the owner.

Like BODhost servers are private servers owned by BODhost and are used for hosting services as users' dedicated servers.

Did I get it right?

Binary, you might check the knowledgebase linked from the main BodHost site. I found it to be very informational in regards to what the differences are and the different options and requirements for each.

There are times when trying to figure out what all the jargons are is the fun of it. For me, I have self taught off and on but it seems as each year passes sometime new comes out. I never thought almost a decade ago VPS would be the big word lately.
