Video Sites
Do you allow video sites on your VPS servers or would I have to buy a dedicated server?
I am thinking of starting a video website and I want to be sure that it is allowed before I start doing anything

Hello,
Yes, we allow video sites on our VPS Hosting packages. However, it is not suggestive that you stream on a VPS as the resource in comparison is very low and the performance will not be upto the mark.
A basic dedicated server hosting package is perfect in terms of live streaming websites.

A dedicated server is highly recommended for the purpose of Video streaming. The dedicated servers provided by Bodhost guarantee 100% Network Uptime, hence you would have uninterrupted services. You must be aware that podcasting or live streaming requires lot of server resources, and the best resources would be available only with a dedicated server.

We do not recommend using a VPS as most of the video sharing websites are big on resources, which will dramatically slow down the VPS server.
Your experience with a VPS hosting may not be up to your expectations. I would personally ask you to go for a dedicated server. We have many clients who have been running some of the most popular video sharing websites on our dedicated servers. They have been running those websites without any issues on our dedicated servers.
As a user you can run applications/programs of your choice on your dedicated server provided it’s in line with our Terms of Service ofcourse

You can start with a VPS initially and upgrade to a Dedicated server if your requirements are not high at this point of time. However, it is suggested that you go for a Dedicated server as you wish to have Video website. If you have more videos on a VPS it will hinder the performance of the VPS and it won't live up to your expectations. Hence, a Dedicated server is the best option to go for.

Ok, you can try it on a VPS initially as suggested by Carl. But I wonder whether Bodhost would allow live streaming on their VPS's. I am sure they would strongly suggest a dedicated server to that purpose.

Yes, a Dedicated server is the best option for Video streaming. However, it also depends on your requirements. A higher configuration VPS will be an option but you should definitely go for a Dedicated server for better performance of a Video Sharing website.

The costs for both VPS and Dedicated Server vary as per your requirements. Can you please let us know in detail what server specifications are you looking for?
We provide 1000GB (including 200GB free) Bandwidth with our high end VPS. While on Dedicated Server, we provide minimum 3000GB Bandwidth.

Why don't you visit their website to understand the packages. Yet, if you are confused then they also have a Live Chat service, chat with them and let them know your requirements. Usually discussing your expectations and requirements over chat or phone works really well.

Indeed, communication with the hosting provider is very important prior to your sign up with them.

Well, we do not provide shared hosting packages and hence you need to consider a VPS hosting package or a dedicated server.
When it comes to hosting vShare, you can surely consider our VPS hosting packages or dedicated servers to host vShare, however, we would suggest you to consider our dedicated servers to host vShare as Video hosting requires a good amount of resources. Also, as you will have root administrator access to your dedicated server, you will be able to install the applications you require very easily
You can check the dedicated servers we offer through the below link :
Dedicated Server Hosting
Please feel free to post if you need any further assistance

There are hosting providers who allow you to host Video sharing websites on shared hosting packages, however, as Video sharing websites require a lot of resources, it is not recommended to host a Video sharing website on a shared server.
Also, if you host your video sharing website on a shared server, you won't be able to install the applications you need as you won't get root access to the shared server. Moreover, there are many websites hosted on a shared server and hence the performance of your website will get affected :o

If would have been in your place,I would have definately not considered a shared hosting package to run a video sharing website due to the fact that there are multiple user accounts created on a single physical server and its resources are shared between all the users. As a matter of fact video sharing sites are resource hungry, and with a shared hosting you do not have much resources available resulting into a degraded performance of the site. And I would definately won't want this to happen.I would loose my reputation as the visitors approaching my site would leave my site due to its bad performance.
