VPS vs Dedicated

Heyas,

I need a new hosting plan and got directed here. My site keeps getting shut down by my shared host, well because they told me they have to. And this inconveniences everyone. I have had two sources of advice on this for choosing hosting and running my forum.

It is a japanese comic (Manga based) forum based on vbulletin software. Its visitor volume is on average b.n 100-200 online users at a time. But on days when we provide comics for fans to access this number can balloon to 1,000-2,000 at a time for at most 2-3 hours and then get back to normal.

Bandwidth usage currently is b.n 100 - 120 GB/month.

The long and short of this is that i have had two suggestions:
1) To go dedicated because during peak hours the amount of server resource usage demands it (i hope i wrote it right).
2) To use vps

But the bottom line right now is payment for hosting services. Since i am the only one financing the forum, the prices attached to Dedicated (although any sites dream) are just unreachable. I have already spent too much finances on the forum and dont have enough right now.

But the site needs to keep running. i dont know, will your vps be able to support such a forum?

Hello,

In our opinion, you should opt for a dedicated server. If you can provide us with a budget that you have in mind, we can provide you a solution to run your V-bulletin forum.

I am going to send you the budget info via PM after i get a couple of things understood clearly.

the reason why i am still with my current host is that even after all the hassles this guy is very understanding and has acquiesced to a lot of changes on his server just to support the forum.

So i just want to know that if and when i ever decide to switch, service to customers wouldnt change dramatically

Also i want to be certain on this: So in your opinion u are saying that based on the statistics i provided VPS isnt going to be enough?

100- 120GB bandwidth/month

100-200 online users regular hours

1,000 - 2,000 online users for 1-3 hour span at peak hours which is once every weekend

We may also use the Shoutbox although it is disabled now and will be disabled during peak hours.

Arent there any alternatives in vps at all to support such a fourm.

which is the better option- Linux or Windows based? And i suppose there is a cpanel
Who offers maintenance? I dont know anything about running or maintaining a server.

My current host does all the maintenance for me as a result.I also sent you a PM with further questions.
