Default Free web hosting or Paid hosting

I am a business owner from last one month. Now I want to create an online presence. I don't have any idea about web hosting and I don't want to invest more money for it.
Can I choose free web hosting? Or I have to choose paid hosting?

A business owner's focus is on making good money. An e-commerce website needs a reliable host, wherein can provide 24 x 7, 365 days support to keep the business running in case of any technical glitch. Free hosts will demand something in exchange, say banner ads or links, which can make walk-in customers annoyed and winning customer's trust will surly become difficult. Its always better to have a paid host, who is genuine and responsible. If you pay peanuts, you get monkeys.

In my point of view free hosting is a marketing policy.. So, paid hosting would be better for you.

Yes, You are right. There are many kinds of web hosting plans in the web hosting market. Those are as follows :

A Shared hosting: If your budget is low and you are a beginner then it would be suitable for you.

B VPS hosting : If your budget is little bit more than shared hosting and you want more flexibility then it would be suitable for you.

C. Reseller hosting : If you want to make money with web hosting then it would be suitable for you.

D. Dedicated hosting : If you have high amount of traffic to your website and you want a dedicated server for your website then it would be suitable for you.
Other than the above types there are also many different types of hosting.

Free web hosting services are specially ideal for people who wish to host a non-profitable websites (i.e. hobby and personal sites). If your website is meant for generating revenue, it means the content and visitors of your website are much valuable. In such a case, you should opt for a low cost, yet reliable premium web hosting service. There is only one advantage of hosting your website is that it's Free, while paid web hosting services can offer you multiple advantages and most importantly data security, greater uptime guarantee and 24/7 customer support.

Yes, definitely you must start with a basic shared web hosting plan. There is nothing hard in choosing a hosting plan. In my opinion, as a beginner you can go with shared hosting. After that you can upgrade your hosting plan as per your requirements, like shared hosting to VPS hosting and VPS hosting to dedicated hosting etc..

Depends on the operating system there are mainly two types of shared hosting:
A. Linux based shared hosting and
B. Windows based shared hosting.
Linux is a open source operating system and on the other hand windows is developed by Microsoft. so, Linux shared hosting is cheaper than windows shared hosting. If your website is developed by Microsoft's products then you have to choose windows shared hosting other wise you can choose Linux shared hosting.
So, before choosing any operating system you have to confirm about used products in your website design with your web designer.
