Default EHCP & Ubuntu on VPS

Hi everyone,
I am looking for a VPS Hosting Server but I have a few questions.

1) Can I have EHCP (Easy Hosting Control Panel) installed on my server If I purchase a VPS?
2) EHCP basically uses Ubuntu or Debian as a Control Panel, so will I be provided with Ubuntu or Debian as Operating System on my VPS?
3) If yes, then which Version of Ubuntu/Debian will be provided on my VPS?

As we provide Root SSH access with our Linux VPS's, you can install EHCP on our Linux VPS. If you need any assistance with the installation process, our VPS support department will assist you with it.

Though most web hosting providers offer various linux distros such as Ubuntu,Debian etc. CentOS is considered to be more stable on VPS's. You should check if EHCP is compatible with CentOS.

Though,I had also heard that Ubuntu Server edition was to be launched. Is it now available for users?

My personal opinion would be debian or CentOS.

As per the reviews i have heard ubunto is best for desktop and not for server OS, you should try to have an OS which is fully capable for the server requirements

Ubuntu can be installed on the servers and some of the users prefer Ubuntu as an operating system for servers. However, choosing an operating system basically depends on your requirements.

Cent OS is found to be compatible with most of the 3rd party applications and it is seen that it is highly stable due to which it is now preferred as an operating system for servers

It is possible that instead of any other OS, you provide me with Ubuntu Server Edition and then I install EHCP on my own?

We can provide you with Ubuntu operating system with our Linux VPS's, however, the operating system you will get is not the full version of Ubuntu Server Edition.

You will get SSH root access with our Linux VPS and hence you can install EHCP on your own.

Mostly Ubuntu is used for Desktop and CentOS for servers, but Ubuntu has recently released Ubuntu 9.10 for servers which features Cloud Option.

Thanks for the update Thomas

Newly added cloud option in the Ubunto OS would certainly help the users and the web hosting companies also

However, it is online helpful for users who do not need cPanel control panel. Ubuntu does not support cPanel control panel and hence the users who prefer to have cPanel control panel with the Linux server cannot choose Ubuntu :(

Yes, cPanel does not support Ubuntu Server Edition as of now. Users who wish to have a control panel to manage their web hosting accounts can choose CentOS or Debian for their VPS's since these two linux distros are considered to be more stable on Virtual Servers.

If you are looking forward to have a Linux VPS with cPanel/WHM control panel, the best choice is CentOS as it is the most compatible operating system for cPanel/WHM control panel and the user interface of CentOS is considered to be the best for servers among all the distros of Linux

ehcp can only be installed on Ubuntu and other Debian based oses.
I specifically suggest Ubuntu.
new ehcp version of 0.29.13 is released with many new features, and tested on Ubuntu 10.04 and Ubuntu 9.10

by the way, installation of ehcp is so easy that, almost no assistance is needed.
just download and start install.sh , then follow on screen instructions (console based installation)

That's right. I remember installing it on a clean Debian system. All I had to do was download, uncompress the files and run the install script. It does ask for some simple questions later such as the server name, admin password, etc.. But definitely an easy one..

I think EHCP control panel is a good option for Debian users as it is very easy to install it, helps you to manage your server and does not require any licensing fee which is indeed a benefit

Yes, mostly Ubuntu & Debian users prefer EHCP. Honestly, EHCP is very easy to use and understand.

Webmin is another good control panel for Debian and Ubuntu users. It makes it possible for you to configure the operating system and also helps you to modify and control open source applications on the server

The best part is it's available for free. Webmin has a lot of features really. But personally I don't like the interface :P
