Default Backups provided?

I do not know exactly how to ask this but I was told to make certain backups where done and that there were instant backups of my installs and scripts loaded and the likes. Is that all provided or is that something easily done? Also once I heard this I wondered, will I need any certain amount of available memory myself such as an external drive or something for my computer? I have very little as it is.

At least for the VPS plans, you can create one free backup of your server that is stored at bodhost. They also do weekly backups themselves I believe.

Most control panels also have backup features which will backup all your vital stuff which you can have uploaded to a FTP server at your home. That is what I do. I create a full backup on sunday that is like 200MB. The nightly incremental backups throughout the week are only like 10MB. So not much space is needed with a setup like this.

Thank you for your reply Jeremy. I that should be easily enough done on my part. I was just worried a tremendous amount of memory might be required. I may go on and invest in an external memory thing as I heard they weren't that expensive, just for safe measures.

Hey Cherry, I've been looking into getting and external hard drive, you might check out one of those.

Jeremy, when you do an FTP backup, do you simply save all your existing files from which you have uploaded or how exactly do you go about that? Thanks in advance.

I have Webmin (With Virtualmin) as my control panel. That is what I do the backups through. Its backs up every users home directory and the control panel settings. Those settings includes everything like Apache, Sendmail, MySQL, FTP, and all other servers I have running on the box.

I can take those backups to a completely new machine, install webmin and virtualmin on it ... then just restore the backups and its like the same machine as the old one. In fact, that's exactly what I did when I moved to bodhost from my old host.

Oh that's great so its a very simple thing to do. I'm going to check into that so I can mark one more thing off my list. I may be making this harder than it should be but it sure seems like a lot of work!

Cherry, I think it is very common for people (such as ourselves) to be cautious and confused as well, when trying to learn something that involves money and our businesses' well being. ;)
