Default Do you allow free hosting sites?

I'm asking because some hosts explicitly disallow any web site that offers free web hosting. I can't find any mention of it BODhost's TOS, but I want to make sure.

We do not have any problems if you host free websites. However, all of the accounts should only host legal content.

So on my VPS if I get that I could offer free accounts to my buddies on my VPS and maintain their sites and that is fine as long as I do not exceed my limitations?

Correct.

Just make sure you don't allow them to host illegal websites or content.

That is amazing. I didn't even realize that would be an option or allowed. That is great that you could share maintenance or even do it all yourself almost like being a reseller I suppose, except giving away.

I don't know much about running a business like this, but it seems like it would be profitable if you could get it a running start (having ads on thousands of pages and having someone else deal with getting the traffic for them? sign me up!). Would you have any idea how much bandwidth something like this typically requires? What sort of package would I want to start out with?

Yeah, that sounds a good business. It means free traffic to your website. The more people use your service, the more traffic you will get. With a great number of visitors, it will be easy to find CPM ads you will monetize your website with.

Yes, it's a good business and revenue generating system but you need to have to invest for higher hosting plan like VPS or a dedicated server which can sustain e traffic ;)

Yes, VPS is a good start which we can afford. I am pretty sure for the beginning we wouldn't need a dedicated server yet. Thanks to start the topic. It really inspires me.

This gives me an idea because my website is too small for a VPS hosting. I would be helping my friend to host their website free as well as getting more traffic from their website. I'm now discovering the wealth that could found in the internet. This is amazing!

Wait a minute, how does it work by the way? Will you register a domain, and your friends join as members and get sub domains? Or you just provide them the hosting service?

I think it's a great idea to help your friends like this! I wish I'd thought of it before I signed my most recent contract. :( Oh well. Maybe I'll be able to do it next time.

I know there are some places that will only let you host what they want, I like the idea of being more lenient here. I have never really thought about hosting someone for free (friend or not), no offense but sometimes I have enough issues with my own stuff. I do not want to be known as the "computer person".

That's a good point mander. Sometimes I tend to go overboard with that sort of stuff. I don't really want to become the computer person either. Maybe I'm better off without having my friends on. :D

Do you think it will help my website gain more traffic through my friend's website if I will host his website? How does it work?

And back to webnubie's question, how could I host my friend's website? Is it through cPanel by adding a website?

Yes, you can get the cPanel login details. Accordingly, you can host your friend's website.

This may sound silly or stupid, but Im really confused that if I provide free hosting then how to identify someone who is hosting illegal content on the free hosting account provided to him.

Is there any solution for this because if I am not able identify the illegal content and if a complaint is reported against my account, then my account will get suspended :(

Well, I don't think there a way to find out if illegal content is hosted on the website if you provide a free web hosting account to a user.

You will get to know if there a complaint logged against the account and the hosting provider informs you about it.

Generally, hosting providers to not suspend the account immediately after the complaint is logged and you will be given some time to ask the account holder to remove the illegal content

If the content is removed within the time limit provided, your hosting account won't be suspended, however, if it isn't, it will be suspended :(

Unfortunately there isn't any way as of now, that can identify websites having illegal content on their website/s. As stated by Joseph one can only report a website hosting illegal content,if they encounter them. Probably, another way would be when that particular website encounters some technical difficulty or problem and the owner approaches the technical support of the web host.May be then they can be notified about the content and can be asked to remove it from the website.

Usually ppl host doubtful illegal contents on FREE hosting accounts as they know there won't be any serious action against them other then breaking their FREE Hosting account ;)
I will advice you to charge few bucks for using your hosting services rather then offering FREE Hosting account.
