Default Platform question

Ok, I don't really now much about coding. I want to build my site on something like Sitebuilder and then launch it on it's own domain. Once I have it launched, which at the time would be hosted by Yahoo. Would I be able to get you guys to move it once I've signed up for hosting with you? Or, is building it in html and php first the only option I have?

Yes, you can build the site at Yahoo using sitebuilder (would be a good choice for newbies building their own sites) & then ask us to move it across from their servers to ours.. but we may require access to the control panel or FTP, through which we'd be able to get the necessary web data from the earlier host/servers (Yahoo).

Hi Rocky,

Sitebuilder is just a tool that you download to your computer, however there is no control panel or ftp for it. You can do a couple of different things with Sitebuilder. Either use a template, code your own html or do a sort of drag and drop method. This is why I am asking this question. I'm not sure how something like this can be moved without files???

Hi,

Generally online Site Builders make web site building much easy and we highly recommend using them. Once your website is ready files can be moved on to our server with FTP access (the hosting company will provide you with this).

As far as I know Yahoo has its own Site Builder which is included with their hosting plans.

Just wondering, what package are you considering to sign up with us?

So basically, you are say that I can move my site into FTP myself? I know a little about FTP and how to do that, but for some reason I never thought that I could move a Sitebuilder made site into it. I know that in my yahoo account I can see the files and folders. I assume I just open the site itself up in FTP and then all will be transferred into it? As to your question, I'm not sure what hosting package I'm interested in yet. I'm still learning what I need to know first.

This is good information, I have the same question about mine. However what I was thinking is, I would like to build a new front page for my self hosted Wordpress site. I need better hosting but my question is this. Can I upload and transfer just the index page of a Sitebuilder site to take the place of my Frontpage Wordpress site?

You will connect to your account (account on yahoo's servers) via any of the available FTP clients you have on your machine. Once you connect, it will display all files/folders for your account sitting on Yahoo's Server. Next you will download the required files/folder on your local machine. Now that you have all files on your machine, you will connect to your account (new host account) via FTP and upload those files to your account.

Sounds easy?

Right, you can move the index page via FTP over to the new server (please refer above post to know how to move the files).

Please feel free to post if you have any questions

I've used Yahoo Sitebuilder before. Moving it is just like moving any other site you build. Just use your ftp and you'll be on your way.

Nope, can't say that I have. Is this Rvsitebuilder similar to Yahoo Sitebuilder? Have you used Rvsitebuilder before and do you recommend it?

I've never used Yahoo Sitebuilder and only seen some screenshots of it, so I can't compare them, but RVSiteBuilder is easily the best of the web-based sitebuilders out there. You can see a demo and some sample sites at the maker's website, if you want (rvsitebuilder.com, of course), or simply use the one installed in your cPanel. Once you get the hang of it, RVSiteBuilder is a very powerful tool for making practically any kind of website.

Thanks DaveM, I will go look at that myself. It sounds pretty interesting. Is this something I can edit the index page with as well?

Yep, if you have the site built through the site building application software, you'd be able to edit any file through it's interface at any time.. Quite easy though ;)

I've never used RVSiteBuilder before, so I'm curious: does it create straight HTML pages or does it function more like a CMS (like Drupal, etc), with pages written in PHP?
