I know this will be a personal preference and both are useful in their own ways. But which one do you prefer or lets say which is popular among the 2 ?

Both blogs and forums are useful in their own ways. Forums and Blogs both help in developing discussions. It is easy to optimize and start a blog though.

Blogs are useful for sharing knowledge in a systematic way, whereas, forums are very useful when it comes to discussions. Blogs are easier to manage and hence one can develop a Blog initially and start a forum when the site gets more traffic.

True. For a newbie it will take some time to have a popular forum. However, most people find it easy to write an article and put it up on their blog. When you need discussion between several people, more collaboration and some decision making forums are a great way.

I think on a forum users have more freedom to discuss like they can create a post in the required section and ask for opinions. But you need to be a registered user on the forum to discuss

That was a tough choice to make, but I think blogs are really progressive right now. Still forums are great because people can ask questions and share their own ideas. This makes the user feel more involved in the site.

I can simply differentiate both term, as follows:

Blog: It is a kind of personal diary or journal where you can express your opinions, comments or whatever.

Forum: It is bit like a media channel of open discussion or reflections of ideas. You can also integrate a blog section in you forum for journals.
