Default Free Hosting or Paid Hosting

Which kind of hosting do you prefer? Free hosting or Paid hosting?

Well, Lot of hosting providers free hosting however it is not much secured and reliable as compared to paid hosting. Also, there are frequent downtime with free hosting companies so I always prefer Paid hosting instead of free hosting.

Paid Hosting without a doubt. In most cases the servers of free hosting providers are found to be saturated that can have an adverse effect on your website.

Even I would prefer paid hosting, as paid hosting is reliable and is more secured as compared to free hosting providers. What matters to me is data reliability, security and 24x7 support through which we can resolve issues quickly, so I think that paying a few extra dollars should not harm if I get these services. ;)

I'd always prefer and recommend paid hosting. Users or site owners who actually opt for free hosting do not realize that they have a lot of limitations in comparison to site owners who have paid hosting. Also, free hosting providers actually gain a benefit from the sites of site owners by some means or the other which is not realized by users.

Hello there,

I will also vote for paid. Free host have very limited support and also they do not support all the required scripts on servers.

Correct. Besides the limited support and limited features, free hosting providers run ads on your website which is very annoying.

But yes, if you want to experiment with a website free hosting services are an acceptable option then.

Apart from other drawbacks (many ;)) with the free hosting services, another drawback with the free hosting services is the fact that you will have to compromise with the security as free hosting providers do not generate enough income to actually have some security systems deployed or get some security applications installed on the servers.

Hence, free hosting can be considered only if you are not looking to host a professional site

Yes, adding to this is the backup facility. Free hosting providers will generally not keep any backups of your data. I've come across some free hosting providers that provide a custom or a control panel with limited features, these panels rarely come with a backup option.

Also, the control panels provided by free web hosting providers are customized control panels which do not have a very neat or clean interface due to which it is very difficult for users to use it and manage the sites and hosting plan.

Right, if you use one of the popular control panels you can easily find another host with the same panel when you’re changing your hosting provider. Although, I know some free hosting provider who offer popular control panels like cPanel.

True, if you are experimenting with any website or trying to learn about them, then you can opt for the free. Although there are some good ones out there.

You can consider free hosting provider on an experimental basis, however, before you consider it, you should make sure that the free hosting provider you are choosing will release your domain and content if you wish to move to a paid hosting provider in future. Otherwise, you will end up loosing your domain as well as the content you'll create :(

Free web hosting services are more suitable for students who want to test their web application scripts on the server side. For personal or commercial website or blog hosting you should only consider paid hosting services.
